Peckham Avenue Clean Up

Does your saltwater fishing club participate in Earth Day?

Do you and other club members clean up a local shoreline access point or a popular fishing spot? If yes then the Saltwater Edge Trash Bag Challenge is a great way to win some sweet prizes for your club events.

Trash along our shorelines and around our access points is a problem for our coastal communities. Trash from numerous sources including fisherman can fuel a desire to limit access to the water. Plastic is the biggest offender.

Studies show that:

“In a business-as-usual scenario, the ocean is expected to contain 1 tonne of plastic for every 3 tonnes of fish by 2025, and by 2050, more plastics than fish (by weight),”

Plastic Beach on Midway Island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Plastic is everywhere!

Saltwater Edge Trash Bag Challenge

For more than twenty years the Saltwater Edge has sponsored various local shore clean up efforts with trash bags, doughnuts, and tackle prizes. We wanted to do more. The Trash Bag Challenge has created to add some constructive competition to Earth Day Clean Up conducted by saltwater fishing clubs. The Trash Bag Challenge is open to all saltwater fishing clubs. To participate simply clean up your local fishing spot and enter a photo of your club members with your bags of trash. The biggest pile with the most members wins one of three Saltwater Edge Gift Certificates valued at $200, $150 and $100!

Enter by emailing the images to peter@saltwateredge.com or post your photos on Instagram and tag us @saltwateredge and also #trashbagchallenge

We also suggest you tag your local government and alert your local news outlets as well. Fisherman can often be blamed for everyone’s  trash (even the stuff that comes in with the tide) around an access point. Make your local officials are aware that your saltwater fishing club is doing their part.

Winners will be chosen on Wednesday, April 26th

Thanks in advance for doing your part. Hope you win!
