My requirements for fishing camera were pretty simple…relatively inexpensive, waterproof, shock
resistantand most importantly… idiot proof. This review of last year’s model of the Pentax Optio W80 is
nothing but positive in every regard.

The best feature in my opinion is the sealed zoom lens. While it may not provide enormous zoom
capacity, it does prevent salt and sand from finding their way into the housing to
cause the failure that I’ve experienced in a number of other cameras.

The function/mode buttons are easily worked without having to remove my gloves and the rechargeable
battery has been problem free. The corresponding program for photo downloading/transfer, management
and editing is also top notch and user friendly.

pluggin

This camera has suffered all manner of abuse which includes my daughter dropping it down a flight of
stairs to a cement floor recently and through frequent submerging it has continued to function without an
issue to mention. I did purchase a small waterproof box that it fits perfectly into and where it can easily
remain clipped to my belt until I have a photo opportunity (see the little yellow case in the above bottom
right pic).

I have no photographic skills beyond what was my half-hearted attempt to read the owner’s manual and
then to push the picture button. This is a true point- and-shoot camera and I now hope that if I cannot
locate a decent fish on a given trip, I’ve at least got a chance to score a decent photo for posterity.

The new model of this camera is pretty slick and includes a strap with carabiner clip.
